About the role

The role involves performing direct and indirect patient care activities under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. Duties include assisting in providing high quality, cost-effective care, interacting with patients and their families, and performing various patient care tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic physical care to promote patient comfort as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Affords assistance with activities of daily living as needed.
  • Safely transports and assists patients during tests and procedures.
  • Transports specimens and items throughout the facility.
  • Performs routine phlebotomy services, excluding line draws.
  • Monitors vital signs, including temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, intake and output, weight, and abdominal girth.
  • Supports respiratory care by setting up equipment for oxygen administration.
  • Encourages the use of Incentive Spirometers and reports any patient concerns or changes in condition to a registered nurse.
  • Assists with examinations and procedures, and provides rehabilitation activities.
  • Communicates with nurses regarding nutrition issues and relays patient messages.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment to prevent infections and ensure patient, visitor, and employee safety.
  • Maintains clean assigned equipment and reports necessary equipment repairs.
  • Assists in routine unit operations as directed.
  • Answers telephones and patient call bells promptly and accurately.
  • Completes errands as requested.
  • Removes out-of-date items.

Requirements

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: High school diploma or equivalent. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.

Prior patient care experience preferred.

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrate competency in the use of Safe Patient Handling equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong customer service orientation.
  • Experience in dealing with multiple demands.
  • Good time management skills.
