8th Grade Social Studies Teacher - Soldiers Memorial Middle School

Core Responsibilities

• Design and execute daily lesson plans aligned with Tennessee's state academic standards.
• Implement inquiry models that push students to think critically, analyze primary sources, and debate historical context.
• Incorporate high-leverage reading and writing strategies into historical texts to support overall student literacy.
• Develop standards-based assessments, analyze student data, and create targeted intervention plans.
• Build a structured, inclusive, and safe classroom culture that fosters a growth mindset and manages student behavior.
• Collaborate with special education staff to implement modifications and accommodations for students with Individualized Education Programs.
• Maintain consistent, professional relationships with parents regarding academic progress and student behavior.
• Participate in weekly Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and faculty meetings to improve school outcomes.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
• Valid State of Tennessee Professional Educator's License with an appropriate endorsement.
• Acceptable codes typically include Middle Grades Education (6-8 Social Studies), History (6-12), Government (6-12), or broad-field Social Studies.
• Passing score on the Middle School Social Studies Praxis exam (Code 5089), if required for alternative pathways.
• Successful clearance of a state-mandated criminal background check and fingerprinting.
