- Supervises All student athletes involved in the program.
- Assists in the development of 7-12 athletic programs.
Supervision
- Permits the athletes to be in designated areas of the buildings at only appropriate times.
- Instills in each player the respect of equipment and school property.
- Works with head varsity coaches in developing 7-12 athletic programs.
- Encourages a great deal of participation - every player should play in every game unless a just cause can be given.
- Emphasizes fundamental skills and techniques.
- Is very positive, encouraging, and understanding when working with athletes in this age group.
Functions
- Employs the principles, techniques, methods, attitudes, and skills of our middle school coaching philosophy.
- Permits the athletes to be in designated areas of the buildings at only appropriate times.
- Instills in each player the respect of equipment and school property.
- Works with head varsity coaches in developing 7-12 athletic programs.
- Encourages a great deal of participation - every player should play in every game unless a just cause can be given.
- Emphasizes fundamental skills and techniques.
- Is very positive, encouraging, and understanding when working with athletes in this age group.
- Reports all scores to the radio station and newspaper.
- Is positive when recognizing players.
- Completes end of the season reports.
- Provides training rules and other regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant.
- Provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant.
- Initiates programs concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
- Provides documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
- Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation.
- Provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant at all practices, games, and while traveling.
- Initiates programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
- Determines discipline, delineates procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary, and contacts parents when a student is dropped or ineligible.
- Accountable for all equipment and collects the cost of any equipment lost or not returned.
- Arranges for issuing, storing, and reconditioning of equipment and submits annual inventory and current records concerning the same.
- Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation.
- Monitors equipment rooms and coaches office, authorizes who may enter, and issues or requisitions equipment.
- Permits the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times.
- Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility.
- Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sports equipment.
- Secures all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty.
- Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care, and proper use.
- Promotes the sport within the school through recruiting athletes who are not in other sports programs.
- Promotes sport outside the school through news media, little league programs, or in any other feasible manner.
- Responsible for the quality, effectiveness, and validity of any oral or written release to local media.
- Maintains good public relations with news media, Booster Club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
- Presents information to news media concerning schedules, tournaments, and results of all home contests.
Qualifications
- Valid Iowa teaching certificate.
- Employment as a teacher in the Denison Community School District.
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
- Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
- Continues to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.

- The public exposure is a considerable responsibility and community/parent pressure for winning performance is taxing but must not override the objectives of good sportsmanship and good mental health.
Pay
Salary and work year to be established by the board and master contract.
