About the role

This position is for the 2026-2027 school year at Berg Middle School. The start date is January 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive basketball program for 8th grade boys students.
  • Collaborate with other coaches and staff to ensure a cohesive athletic program.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and district regulations regarding coaching and student safety.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the team, fostering a positive and competitive environment.
  • Work closely with the administration and other coaches to plan and execute games and practices.

Requirements

  • A valid coaching endorsement or coaching authorization issued by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.
  • A copy of the following Iowa BOEE Coaching Certificate:
    • Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Certificate.
  • Coaching transcripts.

Qualifications

  • Proven success as a head coach at the middle school level.
  • Experience working with 8th grade boys athletes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively.

Skills

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of current coaching strategies and techniques.
