Responsibilities

The teacher will have various responsibilities, including:

  • Arriving at school 15 minutes before carpool and being available for assigned duties or set-up (7:15 am)
  • Staying at school until time designated by School Director/Managing Director or as business necessitates
  • Participating in school-wide and individual professional development, including the 2-3 week summer session
  • Attending and participating in all staff meetings
  • Performing necessary duties including but not limited to bus, morning, lunch, and afternoon duties
  • Chaperoning field lessons and field trips
  • Abiding by all state and federal mandates in reporting sexual or physical abuse and neglect
  • Upholding the code of conduct and all school policies
  • Maintaining and supporting a positive professional school culture
  • Modeling behavior within the code of conduct
  • Supporting and following directives of campus administrators
  • Providing clerical, instructional, and behavioral support for scholars as needed
  • Enrolling in and completing all Texas Reading Academies Training

Team Responsibilities include working as part of an interdisciplinary team, planning and aligning and integrating curricula, attending grade level meetings, and addressing and resolving student issues.

Classroom Responsibilities include creating rigorous and engaging lesson plans, setting clear short-term and long-term goals, maintaining a productive and safe learning environment, consistently enforcing Uplift Education's core mission and values, and providing meaningful and frequent assessments.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./ B.S.) from an accredited college or university
  • Previous teaching experience (a plus)
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certification or enrollment in an Uplift designated certification course
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish speaking a plus)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook)

Skills and Abilities

The teacher should be able to:

  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and public agencies
  • Use basic office equipment and learn new software as necessary
  • Maintain emotional control under stress and work in a fast-paced environment

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands of the job include sitting, talking, hearing, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reaching with hands and arms. The employee may be required to stand, walk, use stairs, and lift up to 30 pounds. The work environment may be noisy with frequent interruptions.

Benefits and Pay

The Teach Us certification program is a fast-paced 6-9 month program designed to get candidates classroom-ready quickly, with a total cost of $4,800 and flexible payment plan options. The new teacher starting salary is $63,000.

Certification Requirement: As a condition of employment with Uplift Education, all instructional candidates who are not currently certified are required to apply and enroll in the Teach Us Certification Program (or an Uplift-approved alternative).
