Position Summary

The 7/8 ELA Intervention Teacher at Kairos Academies is a mission-driven educator who accelerates the learning of scholars who are reading and writing below grade level. This role exists to close gaps. The Intervention Teacher leads a dedicated, full-period ELA intervention class — a standalone classroom course with its own roster, sections, and gradebook.

Core Responsibilities

  • Targeted Intervention & Instruction
Lead a dedicated, full-period ELA intervention class as the teacher of record — your own roster, your own sections, your own classroom and gradebook. This is a standalone course, not a push-in or pull-out support role.
Plan and deliver daily standards-aligned intervention lessons that rebuild gaps in fluency and vocabulary while advancing comprehension, text analysis, and multi-paragraph writing for 7th and 8th grade ELA.
Maintain an accurate gradebook and provide frequent, actionable feedback on reading and writing tasks within the intervention class.
Diagnose precise skill gaps using the IXL Diagnostic, NWEA MAP Reading, and internal assessment data, and build targeted learning plans for each scholar or skill group.
Close residual fluency and vocabulary gaps while building stamina with longer, more complex texts.
Teach close reading, inference, and citing text evidence across literary and informational texts.
Develop analytical and multi-paragraph writing, including thesis, evidence, and grammar/conventions.
Strengthen the reading and writing skills that prepare scholars for high-school ELA and the EOC trajectory.
Set clear, measurable skill goals with scholars and make growth visible through regular progress checks.

  • Progress Monitoring & Data
Monitor scholar progress on a frequent cycle and adjust groupings, pacing, and strategy based on the data.
Track movement toward exit criteria and maintain accurate records of growth, mastery, and time in intervention.
Analyze MAP Reading, NWEA, and IXL data to identify trends, flag scholars needing additional support, and inform reteaching.
Contribute caseload data to data meetings and collaborate on next steps with the ELA and Intervention teams.

  • Scholar Relationships & Mentorship
Serve as a Kairos Coach, mentoring a pod of scholars weekly to develop goal-setting, self-management, and reflection skills.
Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that rebuilds scholar confidence and a sense of agency as readers and writers.
Communicate proactively with families about progress, celebrations, and growth areas.

  • Collaboration & Professional Growth
Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs), coaching cycles, and development sessions aligned to Kairos’ priorities.
Strengthen intervention practice through ongoing reflection, feedback, and shared problem-solving with the team.

  • Whole-School Service & Leadership
Serve in a whole-school service role (e.g., Data Lead, Tutoring Lead, SEL Lead) that supports schoolwide academic and cultural goals.
Support restorative practices, positive behavior systems, and SEL frameworks.
Contribute to schoolwide events, family engagement, and community-building efforts.

Driver Goals

  • NWEA / MAP Reading Growth - 2026-27 Target: 70% of intervention scholars meet or exceed projected RIT growth in reading.
  • Below Basic Reduction - 2026-27 Target: 20-point reduction in the share of caseload scholars scoring Below Basic in ELA, aligned to the school’s literacy gap-closure goals.
  • Grade-Level Proficiency Movement - 2026-27 Target: 20-point gain in the share of caseload scholars moving into Basic or above on MAP Reading.
  • Foundational Mastery (IXL Diagnostic) - 2026-27 Target: 75% of scholars advance at least one grade-level band on the IXL ELA Diagnostic across the year.
  • Mentoring Participation - 2026-27 Target: 75% of scholars meet coaching engagement and reflection benchmarks.
  • On-Track Exit - 2026-27 Target: 60% of scholars who enter Tier 2 support meet exit criteria and sustain on-track progress in the core ELA class.

    • Eligible to work for any employer in the U.S. and able to pass background checks.
