6th Grade Humanities Teacher (2026-2027 School Year)

About the Role

The primary responsibilities are to provide support in the instructional process by serving as a facilitator of learning, developing lesson plans, and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines. The ideal candidate has experience with the workshop model and project-based learning. The teacher must be a hardworking, goal-oriented, and enthusiastic professional with excellent subject knowledge and a sound understanding of the Missouri Learning Standards and Common Core Standards. The teacher collaborates with staff to co-plan, co-deliver, and individualize instruction for all students in a class, accommodating special needs, diversity, and educational backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Establish weekly objectives that align with the Common Core and Missouri Learning Standards.
• Facilitate “hands-on” activities and projects that allow students to learn by doing and exploring.
• Maintain a clean and organized classroom.
• Monitor student’s progress, keep appropriate records, and prepare reports on a regular basis.
• Use discipline models of BIST and Love & Logic to maintain a positive, encouraging learning environment.
• Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
• Maintain effective and efficient record-keeping procedures.
• Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
• Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
• Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
• Assume responsibility for meeting course and school-wide student performance goals.
• Demonstrate gains in student performance.
• Participate in meetings, training, and professional development.
• Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating, etc.
• Act in a professional and ethical manner at all times and comply with school policies, procedures, and expectations.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education.
• Valid Missouri teaching certificate.
• The desire to continue professional development.
• Excellent organization skills and an ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activities.
• Demonstrated success in urban education.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent work ethic, positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to perform assigned tasks.
• Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and teachers.
• Must pass an extensive background check.

Skills

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
• Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, curriculum, learning theories, correspondence, and protocols.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students, and the public.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, and talk or hear.
• Occasionally required to escort students on field trips and must be able to walk.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
• Occasionally push items of 50 pounds such as pushing on a bike or wheelchair, or moving/rearranging furniture.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment

• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and is standard for this environment.
• Directly responsible for students’ safety, work output, and well-being.
• May occasionally visit a child’s home.

Expected salary is based on the 10-month Compensation plan, which applicants will review and indicate in their application.
