Temporary Registered Nurse (RN) – 6-month assignment on the NOC shift (11:00pm-7:30am, 8-hour shifts). This position includes working every other weekend and every other holiday. Temporary employees will be paid $65 per hour and are not eligible for any benefits or additional compensation. Applicants may not be current or previous employees of Prairie St. John's.

Prairie St. John's has been providing services for children, adolescents, and adults to address behavioral health and substance use challenges since 1997. Prairie offers inpatient hospitalization, day treatment, and intensive outpatient services. Accredited by The Joint Commission, we are the largest, freestanding behavioral health facility in the region. More than 4,000 patients receive care from our compassionate healthcare team each year.

Responsibilities

  • Able to assess, plan, intervene, teach, discharge, and document on patients and families appropriately based on diagnostic, cultural, and developmental issues.
  • Serve as a role model and teach staff to provide the same continuum of care.
  • Continually float in the building monitoring units and hospital floors.
  • Serve as a resource to other staff and the treatment team.
  • Effectively interpret and clarify policies and procedures for unit-based staff.
  • Exercise sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Monitor and assure proper and adequate staffing during shift by referring to unit acuity to review if changes are needed.
  • Provide direction to the staffing coordinator by determining coverage of sick leaves, rearranging existing staffing, placing staff on on-call status, or mandating overtime if needed.
  • Assure nursing staff get appropriate breaks and assist in unit coverage as needed.
  • Effectively identify, intervene, and address all performance issues; seek input from and update the Human Resources Director.
  • Plan, develop, implement, administer, assess, and maintain departmental objectives, goals, and operations.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing with the coordination of daily operations.
  • Monitor and ensure that on-call psychiatrists and physicians accurately reflect patient’s needs and any lab tests or other documents which need to be reviewed.
  • Follow up on patients' status and progress and address any concerns with appropriate personnel.
  • Respond in a timely manner to any medical, psychiatric, and environmental emergencies; provide leadership in such situations.
  • Follow up collaboratively with appropriate personnel on maintenance, dietary, laundry, security, and general administrative issues.
  • Provide coverage for Needs Assessment, including ability to cover the call center, perform physical assessment/triage, or psychiatric assessment.
  • Knowledge of involuntary hold process and ability to complete the process for assessment, documentation, and application for emergency hold.
  • Perform quality management monitoring by conducting assigned audits, education, and mentoring as directed by Nursing Administration.
  • Follow up in a timely manner on the completion of occurrence reports and PIP data collection and communication.

Requirements

  • Current license to practice nursing in North Dakota (or eligible to receive or renew).
  • At least one year of RN experience.

Pay

$65 per hour.

Schedule

  • 40 hours per week.
  • NOC shift: 11:00pm-7:30am.
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday.
