5th Grade Teacher

About the role

The West Bath School, an independent K-5 EL Education school, seeks an experienced upper elementary teacher to join their talented teaching team beginning with the 2026-2027 School Year. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent collaboration skills, a passion for teaching elementary learners, and a commitment to designing and facilitating student learning that includes nature-based and/or authentic learning experiences. Experience or knowledge of student-centered instructional practices, particularly the workshop model, and a strong understanding of how students develop as readers, writers, mathematicians, and critical thinkers is strongly desired.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with colleagues to plan and implement high-quality, engaging lessons that align with the school’s curriculum and educational philosophy.
• Design and facilitate student learning experiences that incorporate nature-based and/or authentic learning opportunities.
• Use the workshop model to support students in becoming independent, lifelong learners.
• Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction accordingly to meet individual needs.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills and stay current with educational research and best practices.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
• A valid teaching license or certification.
• At least two years of successful teaching experience at the upper elementary level.
• Experience or knowledge of student-centered instructional practices, including the workshop model.
• A strong foundation in literacy, mathematics, and critical thinking.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Schedule

The school year runs from August to June, with a typical schedule of 180 days per year.
