5th Grade Math/Science Teacher
Department: Exceptional Children (EC)
Term of Employment: 10 months
About the role
The EC Teacher is responsible for providing children with a safe and healthy learning environment; advancing their physical and intellectual growth; supporting social and emotional development; providing positive guidance and discipline; establishing positive relationships with families and encouraging their involvement in the education of their children, ensuring a well-run purposeful program responsive to participant's needs; and maintaining a commitment to professionalism. It is the responsibility of the EC Teacher to provide training and assistance to the Assistant Teacher (if applicable) in developing group/individual activity plans, classroom management and procurement of needed teaching materials and supplies.
Responsibilities
- Assume primary responsibility for the planning and implementing of the daily program for children with special needs
- Work well with children and staff to provide guidance that fosters optimum development
- Provide leadership in a classroom setting
- Relate, work, and communicate effectively with children and adults
- Develop and maintain appropriately written Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals for students with special needs and ensure that these plans are being implemented
- Learn and use the Every Child Accountability & Tracking System (ECATS)
Qualifications
- Must hold a North Carolina teaching license
- Proficient knowledge in the area of child development
- Experience with children with special needs preferred
