Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a specific area of teaching (Early Childhood Education preferred).
  • Certification: Must hold appropriate Maine Department of Education Certification.
  • Appropriate training and preparation for elementary-level instruction

Key Responsibilities

  • Instruction & Planning:
    • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with curriculum goals.
    • Establish clear objectives for lessons and projects.
    • Use appropriate instructional methods and materials.
    • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  • Classroom Environment & Management:
    • Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
    • Establish and maintain fair classroom rules and procedures.
    • Encourage active student participation.
  • Assessment & Student Support:
    • Regularly assess and monitor student progress.
    • Provide required progress reports.
    • Identify learning challenges and collaborate with specialists.
  • Professional Responsibilities:
    • Participate in professional development opportunities.
    • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees.
    • Collaborate with colleagues and administration.
  • Operations & Compliance:
    • Maintain accurate and complete student records.
    • Follow district policies and procedures.
    • Ensure student safety and proper use of school resources.
    • Prepare plans and materials for substitute teachers.
  • Family & Community Engagement:
    • Communicate with parents/guardians as needed.
    • Be available outside instructional hours under reasonable terms.
    • Utilize community resources to support learning.

Additional Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

Terms of Employment

Salary, work year, and working conditions are determined by the RSU 57 School Board. Evaluation Performance is evaluated in accordance with School Board policies.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, and climbing stairs.
  • Physical Tasks: Bending, pulling, pushing, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Lifting: Ability to lift ranging from 25–75 lbs depending on student size and situational needs.
