About the role
St. Clare of Assisi–St. Francis Xavier School, a Catholic elementary school serving students in Pre-K through Grade 8 in the Bronx, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic educator to serve as a fifth-grade homeroom teacher and science teacher for Grades 5–8 for the 2026–2027 school year. The successful candidate will create a structured, engaging, and supportive classroom environment; provide standards-aligned science instruction; and help students develop scientific knowledge, inquiry skills, critical thinking, and curiosity about the world around them.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the fifth-grade homeroom teacher and support students' academic, social, and emotional growth
- Teach science to students in Grades 5–8
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons
- Incorporate hands-on investigations, laboratory activities, scientific inquiry, and real-world applications
- Use assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction
- Provide appropriate scaffolds and differentiation for students with varying learning needs, including multilingual learners
- Maintain clear classroom routines and high expectations for learning and behavior
- Communicate regularly and professionally with families
- Collaborate with colleagues, school leadership, and student-support personnel
- Participate fully in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and the faith life of the school
- Support the Catholic identity, values, and mission of the school
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
- New York State teacher certification preferred
- Experience teaching upper-elementary or middle-school students preferred
- Strong classroom-management, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to design engaging lessons for students with diverse academic and language needs
- Commitment to academic excellence, student well-being, professional collaboration, and Catholic education
Pay
Salary is commensurate with education and experience and follows applicable Archdiocese of New York guidelines. In the range of $55,072.00–$76,907.00.
