About the role

The Preschool Teacher position at Runnells Elementary within Southeast Polk Community School District is responsible for instructing assigned classes, planning a curriculum that meets individual student needs, and maintaining a safe and effective learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
• Prepare for classes assigned, showing written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
• Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
• Participate in curriculum writing, staff development, and professional development as required.
• Strive to implement by instruction and action the district's policies, philosophy of education, and instructional goals and objectives.
• Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, provide progress reports as required, and implement required district standardized testing.
• Diagnose the learning needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
• Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
• Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
• Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides and volunteers and cooperate with the principal and/or department facilitators to monitor their job performance.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Requirements

• Minimum Provisional Certificate issued by the Iowa Department of Education.
• Minimum BA/BS degree endorsed to meet the needs of the specific assignment.
• Demonstrated proficiency to perform specific assignment.
• Possession of demonstrated experience at assignment/subject/level preferred.

Benefits

• Days of employment: 176 student days, 10 in-service days, 5 holidays, 4 hour work day.
• As outlined in the negotiated SEPEA/Southeast Polk School agreement.
