About the Role

5-day, 6.5-hour Multi-Handicapped Aide position at Central Elementary.

Schedule

8:25 A.M. – 3:25 P.M., Monday through Friday (½ hour unpaid lunch). 9-month contract.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (Associate’s Degree preferred).
  • Must meet ESEA Highly Qualified requirements as listed on the job description.
  • Valid Ohio educational aide certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
  • Assist students with physical or behavioral disabilities, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
  • Provide physical care: feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
  • Adapt to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Prepare instructional materials and classroom displays; maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help maintain administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children and their families.
  • Follow established communication channels within the building.
  • Notify the principal and teachers of absence.
  • Monitor students working with individualized programmed material.
  • Provide instructional support as the special education program is implemented.
  • Supervise students individually and in small groups according to teacher directions.
  • Prepare materials, programs, and equipment before student arrival.
  • Assist with bulletin boards, duplication of materials, maintaining student charts, work folders, and other clerical duties.
  • Help supervise student arrival and departure.
  • Monitor students in the cafeteria, restroom, hallway, playground, during field trips, school assemblies, special events, snack, nap time, and before/after school.

Skills

  • Ability to work well with children with disabilities.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform physical care tasks, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
  • Ability to properly lift and move special needs students.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and therapeutic holding; regular lifting of students.
  • Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases.
