About the role
Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. As part of the General Merchandise and Food Sales team, you’ll lead inbound, outbound, replenishment, inventory accuracy, presentation, pricing, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. This role also supports Food & Beverage and Food Service, ensuring a fresh and food-safe experience while enabling efficient delivery to guests through pick, pack, and ship fulfillment.
The Inbound Expert role helps build and develop skills for a career, including guest service fundamentals, retail business operations, inventory management, and process efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Create an easy, inspiring, and friendly guest experience by:
- Greeting guests within 10ft (smile, make eye contact, or wave) and 4ft (initiate a warm, helpful interaction).
- Helping guests find what they need and resolving issues for a smooth shopping experience.
- Ending every guest transaction with a sincere thank you.
- Support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
- Adjust to business and guest needs to deliver an easy and inspiring experience.
- Execute a detailed, accurate, and efficient sorting operation; stock, organize, and store reserve product; and straighten merchandise on the sales floor.
- Maintain product availability on the sales floor for GM categories.
- Operate powered equipment (if certified) while unloading freight or moving merchandise.
- Process defective merchandise and handle environmentally sensitive (ESIM) items in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; work safely, report hazards, and correct them where possible.
- Support guest services such as back-up cashier, order pick-up (OPU), and Drive-Up (DU) while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local laws (e.g., adult beverage regulations).
- Perform all other duties as needed based on business requirements.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
- Ability to communicate using multiple frequency devices, handheld scanners, and other technology equipment.
- Work both independently and with a team.
- Resolve guest questions quickly on the spot.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow multi-step processes.
- Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.
- Accurately handle cash register operations as needed.
- Frequently lift, carry, and move merchandise up to 44 pounds throughout the shift without assistance, involving repetitive bending, twisting, reaching, and rotating motions.
- Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, and holidays); ability to work scheduled shifts, including required meal and rest breaks.
- Capable of working in varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements (e.g., Drive-Up, carryout).
- Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary).
