About the role

Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. As a General Merchandise Inbound Expert, you’ll enable a consistent experience for guests by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced, and signed on the sales floor. This role leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, inventory accuracy, presentation, pricing, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store, including Food & Beverage and Food Service. You’ll also own pick, pack, and ship fulfillment work to deliver efficiently to guests.

This role helps build skills for a career through guest service fundamentals, retail business knowledge (including sales trends and inventory management), and process efficiency and improvement. You’ll execute daily and weekly workloads to support business priorities and sales goals.

Responsibilities

  • Create an easy, inspiring, and friendly guest experience by:
    • Greeting guests within 10 feet (smile, make eye contact, or wave) and 4 feet (initiate a warm, helpful interaction).
    • Helping guests find what they need or resolving issues for a smooth shopping experience.
    • Ending every guest transaction with a sincere thank you.
  • Support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
  • Adjust to business and guest needs to deliver an easy and inspiring experience.
  • Execute a detailed, accurate, and efficient sorting operation.
  • Stock, organize, and store reserve product; straighten merchandise on the sales floor.
  • Maintain product availability on the sales floor for GM categories.
  • Operate powered equipment (if certified) while unloading freight or moving merchandise.
  • Process defective merchandise and handle environmentally sensitive (ESIM) items in compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; work safely, follow safety policies, and report hazards.
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier, order pick-up (OPU), and Drive-Up (DU) while maintaining compliance (e.g., federal, state, and local adult beverage laws).
  • Perform all other duties based on business needs.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
  • Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices, operate handheld scanners, and use other technology equipment as directed.
  • Work both independently and with a team.
  • Resolve guest questions quickly on the spot.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow multi-step processes.
  • Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.
  • Accurately handle cash register operations as needed.
  • Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting, carrying, and moving merchandise up to 44 pounds throughout the shift without assistance. This involves repetitive bending, twisting, reaching, and rotating motions.
  • Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, and holidays); come to work when scheduled, work scheduled shifts, and take required meal and rest breaks.
  • Capable of working in and exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements (e.g., Drive-Up, carryout).
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary).
