About the role

Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. As a General Merchandise Inbound Expert, you’ll enable a consistent guest experience by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced, and signed on the sales floor. This role leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, inventory accuracy, and presentation processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store, including Food & Beverage and Food Service. You’ll also own pick, pack, and ship fulfillment work to deliver efficiently to guests.

This role helps you build and develop skills for a career, including guest service fundamentals, retail business basics (sales trends, inventory management, process efficiency), and executing workloads to support business priorities and sales goals.

Responsibilities

  • Create an easy, inspiring, and friendly guest experience:
    • Greet guests within 10 ft (smile, make eye contact, or wave) and initiate warm, helpful interactions within 4 ft.
    • Help guests find what they need and resolve issues for a smooth shopping experience.
    • End every guest transaction with a sincere thank you.
  • Support team efforts and assist peers while maintaining a positive, respectful attitude.
  • Adjust to business and guest needs to deliver an inspiring experience.
  • Execute a detailed, accurate, and efficient sorting operation.
  • Stock, organize, and store reserve product; straighten merchandise on the sales floor.
  • Maintain product availability on the sales floor for GM categories.
  • Operate powered equipment (if certified) while unloading freight or moving merchandise.
  • Process defective merchandise and handle environmentally sensitive (ESIM) items in compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; work safely, report hazards, and correct them where possible.
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier, order pick-up (OPU), and Drive-Up (DU) while maintaining compliance (e.g., adult beverage laws).
  • Perform all other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
  • Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices, operate handheld scanners, and use other technology equipment as directed.
  • Work both independently and with a team.
  • Resolve guest questions quickly on the spot.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow multi-step processes.
  • Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within timeframes.
  • Accurately handle cash register operations as needed.
  • Climb up and down ladders.
  • Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting, carrying, and moving merchandise up to 44 pounds throughout a shift without assistance. This involves repetitive bending, twisting, reaching, and rotating motions.
  • Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, holidays); come to work as scheduled, work scheduled shifts, and take required meal and rest breaks.
  • Capable of working in varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements (e.g., Drive-Up, carryout).
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary).
