4-H Cook County AmeriCorps State Member, Full Time

About the role

The AmeriCorps State program is a federally funded grant providing U.S. citizens the opportunity to serve in their own country. The Georgia 4-H AmeriCorps member delivers 4-H programming directly to youth under the direction of the County Extension Agent, with additional supervision from the AmeriCorps State Program Coordinator. This full-time position runs from September 1, 2026, to August 31, 2027, requiring a one-year commitment and logging 1,700 hours (averaging 35-40 hours per week).

Responsibilities

• Deliver 4-H positive youth development programming, including:
  • Facilitating/teaching 4-H in-school club meetings
  • Preparing students for 4-H Project Achievement
  • Attending 4-H Summer Camp
  • Designing and implementing community service projects
  • Assisting with other 4-H base programming
• Support day-to-day activities involved in providing direct services to youth, such as planning and development of 4-H programming (55% of time)
• Provide leadership to the county 4-H Volunteer program by recruiting, screening, training, and engaging volunteers. Full-time members must recruit at least 5 new volunteers during their service (20% of time)
• Track and document data related to AmeriCorps Grant performance measures, complete monthly reports, administer surveys to youth, and perform data entry (15% of time)
• Attend local, district, and state program activities and events alongside the 4-H County Extension Coordinator, as well as district and state-wide trainings, including:
  • AmeriCorps New Service Year Orientation (October 6-7, 2026, at Rock Eagle 4-H Center)
  • Additional face-to-face trainings and at least monthly webinars (10% of time)
• Provide transportation to youth as needed

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Valid driver’s license (required)
• U.S. citizenship with proof of citizenship (required)
• Experience in program planning, delivery of youth development programs, and basic knowledge of 4-H (preferred)
• Service-minded attitude and passion for working with youth
• Must pass a complete criminal history background check, including a fingerprint-based FBI check. Individuals convicted of murder or those on the sex offender registry (or required to be) are ineligible.
• Must comply with AmeriCorps Member Service Agreement

Skills

• Independent judgment and ability to plan, develop, and direct educational programs for youth
• Experience working with youth (preferred)
• Ability to perform light lifting and occasional outdoor work in adverse climate conditions
