Essential Job Functions

  • Supports the implementation of individualized student success plans.
  • Provides additional practice on identified skill areas.
  • Adapts classroom environment/lessons under direction of teacher or school staff.
  • Prepares instructional materials and operates instructional equipment under supervision.
  • Develops materials for individualized student success plans.
  • Makes observations and reports on student progress.
  • Communicates and collaborates with relevant parties about student issues.
  • Supports and coaches students in classrooms.
  • Utilizes de-escalation and physical intervention techniques.
  • Assists with implementing individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Monitors daily and monthly data on student progress.
  • Fulfills other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily indoors in classroom or specialized instructional settings.
  • Occasional outdoor supervision.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and assisting students with mobility or personal care needs.
  • May involve lifting or supporting students or equipment.
  • Exposure to escalated student behaviors and bodily fluids.
  • Follows assigned school schedule and participates in school activities.

Knowledge

  • Trauma-Informed Practices, Restorative Practices, and Collaborative Problem Solving.
  • Safety practices.
  • Ability to work, coach, and communicate with other adults regarding student behaviors.
  • General knowledge of core content subjects.

Skills & Abilities

  • Physical ability to regularly attend work and fulfill essential functions.
  • Read, understand, and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Operate telephones, computers, and other equipment used in the work.
  • Train and supervise student helpers.
  • Communicate clearly and appropriately in speech and in writing.
  • Support the success of student success classrooms and students.
  • Maintain a patient, positive, persistent attitude and warm, accepting personality.
  • Learn to deal with bodily fluid spills.
  • Adhere to the district requirements for a drug-free workplace.
  • Abide by confidentiality requirements.
  • Provide academic support.

Education And Experience

  • At least two years of related college education, an AA degree, or pass the Paraprofessional Assessment Exam with a score of 455 or higher.
  • Knowledge of School District practices or policies.
