About the Role
Central Garden & Pet/Kaytee is seeking a 3rd Shift Maintenance Technician to join the Maintenance team at the Chilton, WI facility. This role focuses on project work including equipment installation, fabrication, and preventative maintenance in a safe, clean work environment.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with operators, Maintenance Supervisor, Shift Supervisors, and other team members.
- Follows established safety and environmental policies and procedures while promoting continuous improvement in workplace safety.
- Dismantles, moves, installs, or repairs machinery and mechanical equipment.
- Examines machinery or mechanical equipment; identifies reasons for malfunction and completes repairs and/or maintenance.
- Uses hand tools, power tools, and testing instruments to repair and maintain production equipment and ancillary equipment.
- Cleans plant facilities, equipment, and work areas as required.
- Assists with installing new equipment and systems; repairs and maintains current equipment and systems as needed.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Performs special program tasks, such as annual and semi-annual Preventative Maintenance Programs (PMP’s).
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Responsible for reporting any Food Safety issues to authorized personnel for correction.
Requirements
- Ability to work independently in a safe, efficient, and accurate manner.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance according to published guidelines.
- Ability to repair, dismantle, install, or move machinery and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and systems.
- Ability to test systems and/or operations in compliance with published standards.
- Ability to accurately use rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other related measuring tools.
- Knowledge of inspecting and cleaning utility plant equipment.
- Ability to work in elevated locations (e.g., elevator legs).
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the trade.
Working Conditions
- Work involves regular exposure to unusual elements such as temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
- Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous situations requiring extensive safety precautions and the use of protective equipment.
- Frequent physical activity, including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 pounds; ability to lift and/or move 50-100 pounds with assistance.
- Requires the ability to regularly climb, lift, bend, stand, walk, twist, turn, and reach with arms and hands.
- Work hours may vary due to overtime, special projects, deadlines, and other concerns.
