3rd Shift Diesel Mechanic

About the role

Waste Connections has an immediate opening for a 3rd Shift Diesel Mechanic at our Charlotte, NC site. As a key member of the technicians team, you will focus on the overall maintenance of equipment used in the transportation and handling of vehicles, including inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing electrical, hydraulics, suspension, brake, and air systems.

Responsibilities

• Initiating or assigning repairs by utilizing vehicle computer electronic systems to interpret failure modes
• Completing required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times
• Reviewing, completing, or assigning repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports
• Conducting safety checks on vehicles and equipment
• Performing service calls for emergency breakdowns
• Maintaining a clean, safe work environment in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards

Requirements

• Ability to work 2nd or 3rd Shift
• Minimum 1 year of proven experience in the field
• Ability to adapt to a wide variety of environments to complete work assignments
• Welding/fabrication experience, a major plus
• Valid CDL or the ability to obtain one within 90 days
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand most of the work day, stoop, kneel, bend, reach into tight spaces, climb and crawl, reach and twist, grasp and use hand tools with precision, see/read/write work orders and gauges, and withstand exposure to loud noises
