3D Laser Technician
Technique is seeking a skilled 3D Laser Technician (Multi-Axis Laser) to join our team at our Jackson, Michigan facility. This position reports to the 3D Laser Manager and is a highly technical role requiring fast, accurate decision-making in the production process and operation of advanced multi-axis laser cutting equipment.
About the role
The role progresses from general operator functions to Level 1 technician competencies, including fixture setup, program management, blueprint reading, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate understands materials, tolerances, 6-axis laser cutting techniques, and possesses basic problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities

- Maintain schedule flexibility – Flexibility in work schedule is required.
3D Laser General Operator
- Perform general labor duties.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Load parts in the machine.
- Start and stop the machine process.
- Recognize good and bad cut quality and position.
- Operate a hand grinder and sander.
- Obtain an industrial truck license.
3D Laser Technician Level 1 (Competency in General Labor functions)
- Apply basic problem-solving skills to the production process.
- Power up and shut down laser machines.
- Follow lockout/tagout procedures.
- Understand job paperwork (IPDS, router, etc.).
- Manage part storage pre- and post-process.
- Use manual overrides to adjust cut quality.
- Read and interpret blueprints.
- Perform basic surface plate layouts.
- Load and delete programs.
- Set fixtures, find datums, and run repeat jobs without extensive CAD changes.
- Locate fixtures using the Hanel Log in the Hanel lift system.
- Open software and visualize cutting paths.
- Interpret, troubleshoot, and clear basic alarms.
- Perform basic welding (tack welding).
Requirements
- Ability to make fast and accurate decisions relating to production processes and advanced multi-axis laser cutting equipment.
- Good understanding of materials, tolerances, and 6-axis laser cutting techniques.
- Strong commitment to safe work practices.
- Ability to work overtime and maintain schedule flexibility.
- Familiarity with lockout/tagout procedures, surface plate layouts, and basic tack welding.
- Ability to obtain an industrial truck license.
