About the role
We have an opening for a night shift Cutting Forklift Operator in the Main Plant. This role involves safely operating a forklift to transport raw materials, product, and supplies within the cutting department.
Responsibilities
- Completes Pre-Operational Checklist each day before operating the forklift.
- Reports all forklift damage or malfunction to supervisor.
- Operates forklift at a reasonable and prudent speed, watching closely for pedestrians or other motorized vehicles.
- Safely transports raw materials or supplies using the forklift.
- Maintains proper volume of product in the wet hopper at all times.
- Dumps product in the wet hopper and checks for foreign objects after each box of product is dumped; removes any found.
- Hooks safety chain on cardboard dumper to bolt on forklift when moving cardboard boxes of product; removes chain after dumping.
- Documents supplier of product for traceability.
- Sets up washer, vibrator, and hopper.
- Ensures all machinery in the work area (e.g., incoming conveyor to hopper) is running properly; reports problems to supervisor.
- Fills wet hoppers with water or brine at the start of the shift and regulates the flow of product into the plant.
- Verifies product quality and notifies supervisor of questionable product.
- Follows safety rules and company policies.
- Unstops pumps at the wet hopper as needed.
- Operates small weigh scales to weigh all product used in production and records weights on a tally sheet.
- Safely operates motorized pallet jack as needed.
- Inspects and cleans brush washer.
- Keeps work area clean and tidy.
- Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, and project teams as appropriate.
- Receives and follows written or verbal instructions from supervisor or packing schedule.
Requirements
- Requires forklift operation experience.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Basic understanding of addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
