31B Military Police - Police Officer
About the Role
As a Military Police Officer for the Army National Guard, you’ll protect, defend, and uphold the law while serving your community, state, and nation. MPs support battlefield operations through circulation control, area security, prisoner of war operations, civilian internee supervision, and law and order operations. In peacetime, MPs protect critical resources, implement crime prevention programs, and preserve law and order within the Army community.
Responsibilities
- Conduct law enforcement patrols
- Interview witnesses, victims, and suspects in investigations
- Secure and process crime scenes
- Arrest and charge criminal suspects

Training
Job training for Military Police consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you’ll learn basic Soldiering skills, followed by 20 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) and on-the-job instruction. Training includes both classroom and field components, with a focus on police methods.
Instead of paying to learn these skills, you’ll earn a regular paycheck while training and qualify for tuition assistance.

Most non-prior service candidates will earn between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change.
Requirements
- Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
- Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or GED certificate
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
- Must pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
