Responsibilities

• Diagnose and perform repairs on customer or company-owned Caterpillar equipment, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and general machine upkeep.
• Use diagnostic tools such as laptop computers, gauges, and instruments to detect faults in electronics, hydraulics, power train, engines, and machine performance.
• Operate machines occasionally to assess repair needs or verify repairs.
• Disassemble and assemble machine components to manufacturer specifications using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized equipment.
• Perform basic welding tasks as needed.
• Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to guide maintenance and service.
• Research repair needs and order parts as required.
• Load or unload equipment or components from customer or common carrier vehicles.
• Comply with OSHA Safety and Health rules.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school education or GED equivalent; technical, vocational, or trade school education preferred.
• Two to five years of experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy equipment, with Caterpillar experience preferred.
• Experience diagnosing equipment using laptop computers, gauges, and instruments across electronics, hydraulics, power train, engines, and machine performance.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment, mining equipment, systems, engines, and components.
• Proficiency with basic tools, including basic welding skills.
• Journeyman status preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multitasking environment while maintaining organization.
• Strong problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Above-average math, science, and English skills, with the ability to read and interpret machine schematics.
• Self-motivation and a desire to perform at the highest level.
• Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office.
• MSHA certification or the ability to obtain it.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, read, talk, write, and hear for extended periods.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds (reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities).
• Work conditions may include:
  • Long periods of standing.
  • Exposure to seasonal heat and cold.
  • Working with oils and greases.
  • Noise and shift work (1st and 2nd shifts as needed).
  • Working outside, stooping, bending, squatting, or working in a prone position.
