Responsibilities

  • Perform routine checks, tests, gauging, and instrument inspections of materials, goods in process, and finished goods.
  • Separate acceptable and unacceptable product.
  • Collect IBC’s from production lines in accordance with test schedules and compare results with company standards.
  • Make recommendations to the Quality Manager and Production regarding observations and findings.
  • Record test information accurately on the computer and in neatly written shift reports.
  • Work closely with PTLs, operators, and production supervisors to advise when adjustments are needed.
  • Conduct testing to verify quality and notify supervisors when inspection data exceeds acceptable limits or when major incidents of poor quality are noted.
  • Become familiar with the operation of all test equipment used in QC tech duties.
  • Follow escalation rules and document problems.
  • Execute shift handover through interface with production and the next shift QC, ensuring a neat and complete Shift Handover report.
  • Follow procedures for containments and placing defective IBC’s on HOLD.
  • Aid in planning, promoting, and organizing training activities related to product quality and reliability.
  • Work as a team member with other QC techs in the department.
  • Perform various external and inter-plant quality and service-related tasks as needed.
  • Assist with testing on samples and special situations.
  • Perform all duties safely and consistently with company safety rules.
  • Aid in the investigation of customer complaints.
  • Conduct UN performance testing, complete appropriate documentation, and maintain records to satisfy contractual, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections to verify process and product quality.
  • Develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of established quality policy, procedures, and instructions.
  • Make recommendations on the disposition of questionable product to supervisors.
  • Handle various other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Provide backup support for the SHEQ manager.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 2 years of related trade school training or equivalent education and experience in a similar environment.
  • Use and understanding of precision measuring instruments and gauges, specifications, charts, and diagrams.
  • Ability to accurately read measuring devices, blueprints, product specifications, and test procedures.
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
  • Good hand/eye coordination and motor skills.
  • Must be dependable, reliable, and responsible enough to handle equipment safely and sensibly.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to operate a forklift safely or willingness to learn.
  • Computer skills required; familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 55 lbs overhead.
  • Good hand/eye/foot coordination and motor skills.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • Vision: 20/20 corrected and normal hearing range.
