About the Role

The Production Team Lead oversees daily operations in the production area and Dry Pack to ensure the manufacture of the highest quality product in a safe and efficient manner. This role involves training, mentoring, and guiding Operators, Wet Packers, and Dry Packers while safely and accurately down-packing liquid, paste, and powder products from bulk containers to finished goods unit containers. The Team Lead serves as the "Manager on Duty" in the absence of the Supervisor and may cross-train or back up other departments such as Packing, Buddy Rhodes, and/or Shipping.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently and safely manufacture high-quality batches while maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Coordinate with Shift Supervisors, Materials/Purchase Manager, and Plant Manager on production priorities.
  • Assign personnel and machinery to tasks to maximize throughput and productivity.
  • Inspect batches and batch paperwork to ensure compliance with instructions.
  • Communicate effectively with employees to ensure tasks are understood and encourage self-improvement.
  • Train new employees on safety, cleanliness, job functions, and software systems (Soar, Smooth-On Master Form).
  • Train existing employees on new equipment, batches, and production procedures.
  • Operate machinery such as pint capping/sealing, can filler, and cartridge filler safely and efficiently.
  • Retrieve packaging components and dispense products accurately by weight or volume.
  • Follow and complete wet pack sheets according to packaging components, labels, product, weights, and volume.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Empower Junior Operators and Wet Packers on new production processes.
  • Use problem-solving, decision-making, and planning tools effectively.
  • Handle hazardous waste drums and oversee bulk receiving of raw materials.
  • Process finished good returns for rework or restocking.
  • Work overtime as needed, including weekends.
  • Provide feedback on employee performance and attitude, and participate in disciplinary actions.
  • Actively participate in teams, committees, and project groups.
  • Attend technical and developmental training at least twice per year.
  • Serve as Material Handler for the shift.
  • Practice safety procedures and policies to protect yourself, others, and company property.
  • Comply with company rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Complete job tasks efficiently and accurately according to SOPs and job aids.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Be willing to learn other jobs and cross-train as needed.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED required.
  • Two (2) years of successful experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Previous experience in a chemical industry preferred.
  • Moderate understanding of operating a computer.
  • Reliable transportation to work.
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime with adequate notice.

Skills

  • Able to clearly communicate verbally, non-verbally, and in writing.
  • Ability to manage a crew of 10+ employees.
  • Strong organizational skills and great attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work independently.
  • Open to suggestions from employees and able to solve problems.
  • Strong proficiency in operating a forklift.
  • Knowledge of SOAR and Smooth-On Master Form software.
  • Familiarity with raw materials and packaging supplies.
  • Able to identify and handle hazardous materials.
  • Proficient in filling out paperwork and reports neatly and accurately.
  • Willingness to learn new equipment and processes.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.
