Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) is a dairy farmer-owned cooperative and dairy processor founded in 1916. MMPA serves dairy farmers in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin, maintaining a strong presence in the dairy industry through strategic business relationships and member-owned processing plants. Products include fluid milk, cheese, ultrafiltered milk, cottage cheese, ice cream, butter, nonfat dry milk, cream, and condensed skim milk.

About the role

MMPA is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to lead maintenance operations at our Ovid dairy manufacturing facility. This frontline leadership role is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and responsive maintenance support to production while leading and developing a team of maintenance technicians. The Maintenance Supervisor serves as the primary maintenance contact for Operations during their assigned shift, directing troubleshooting efforts, prioritizing work, ensuring quality repairs, and supporting equipment reliability across a complex manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise maintenance technicians on assigned shift.
  • Serve as the primary maintenance contact for plant Operations.
  • Coordinate and prioritize maintenance activities to support production needs.
  • Direct troubleshooting and response to equipment breakdowns.
  • Ensure maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
  • Review and maintain accurate work orders and maintenance documentation.
  • Coach, train, and develop maintenance team members.
  • Monitor contractor work and ensure compliance with safety and plant requirements.
  • Drive a manufacturing reliability mindset by identifying chronic equipment issues, supporting root cause analysis, and implementing sustainable corrective actions.
  • Enforce company safety, food safety, and quality standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Progressive industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading or supervising maintenance personnel.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Working knowledge of industrial controls, pneumatics, hydraulics, and automated equipment.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Qualifications

  • Food or dairy manufacturing experience.
  • Technical degree, apprenticeship, or journeyman certification.
  • Experience with CMMS systems.
  • Experience with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and industrial automation.
  • Allen-Bradley controls experience.
  • Background in refrigeration, utilities, process systems, drying, or high-speed packaging.
  • Experience with reliability programs and root cause analysis.

Working Conditions

This role is based in a manufacturing environment and requires frequent presence on the production floor.
