About the role
As a key technical subject matter expert, you will ensure high equipment availability rates through preventive and predictive maintenance processes. You’ll rapidly troubleshoot equipment breakdowns, restore equipment to service, and collaborate with other technicians to solve complex problems. Your expertise will include validating contractor work, optimizing material handling equipment, and performing Root Cause Analysis to fix systemic issues. This role requires an expert understanding of system controls logic and troubleshooting techniques, along with the ability to work with urgency on multiple projects.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot electrical/mechanical aspects of Material Handling Equipment (MHE), including conveyors, sortation, Fork Trucks, and robotics
- Control and adjust positioning accuracy, timing, scanners, cameras, scales, and printer applicators
- Control, reset, repair, or replace adjustable components (belts, chains, cables) and wearing components (guides, bearings, wheels, rollers, pulleys)
- Clean, lubricate, and calibrate equipment
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot relay logic, ladder diagrams, and control components (photo eyes, motor starters, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, timers, solenoids, Servo drives, frequency inverters, linear drives, tachometers, high-speed camera arrays, and encoders)
- Troubleshoot PLC programs, components (CPU backplanes, I/O boards, counters, modules, and devices), field buses (ASI, Profibus, etc.), and communications modules (Ethernet)
- Configure and adjust PLC parameters and component setup
- Troubleshoot power distribution systems, branch circuits, lighting systems, transformers, and wiring methods and materials, up to 480V
- Serve as first-line support for all building critical assets, including air compressors, RTUs, label printers, jockey fleet trucks, and battery changers
- Act as liaison for contracted service providers performing work at the facility
- Coordinate with operational departments and external vendors to complete corrective and preventive maintenance plans
- Develop work plans with peer technicians for emergency repair of critical assets
- Utilize Emaint (CMMS) to create and close Work Orders with appropriate data (labor hours, downtime, problem/cause/remedy, and parts used)
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships across all levels of the organization
- Follow appropriate safety procedures and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while maintaining equipment (Lock Out/Tag Out, Arc Flash, Hot Work, Fire Impairment, etc.)
- Ensure a safe work environment by eliminating potential equipment safety hazards
- Navigate ladders safely and work off platforms and equipment at significant heights
- Work effectively in varied conditions, temperatures, and environments
- Monitor all aspects of the internal and external worksite, including standing/walking for up to 8–10 hours
- Lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds
- Operate all powered lift equipment within the facility (fork trucks, scissor lifts, boom lifts, etc.)
- Demonstrate flexibility to perform all other tasks aligned with business needs
Requirements
- Excellent PC competency and ability to use a laptop
- Familiarity with wiring diagrams, symbols, and electrical measuring
- Experience with:
- Preventive/predictive maintenance procedures
- Blueprint and schematic reading
- Work order management
- Industrial Electrical, Controls, and Electronics
- Programmable Logic Control (PLC) programs
- National Electrical Code (NEC) and Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safety standards
- Automated material handling equipment or robotic maintenance
- Degree from a technical or community college, or accredited industrial maintenance certifications (PLCs, Industrial Networks, Machine Logic, Robotics), with a focus in Mechanical/Electrical fields
- 4+ years of experience in Mechanical or Electrical maintenance
- Willingness to work overtime as needed and flex to support other shifts
