About the Role

The Diesel Technician maintains diesel equipment, completes inspections and preventive maintenance requirements, corrects vehicle deficiencies, completes adjustments and alignments, and maintains records to ensure safety and customer service commitments are met.

Hiring range for this position is $24–$45 per hour with an annual $2,000 tool allowance. Technicians participate in a Career Pathways Program offering advancement opportunities and regular merit increases. Hiring bonuses range from $6,000 to $10,000 depending on experience level, and relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all job duties in accordance with company safety policies and regulations.
  • Completes maintenance tasks based on driver pre- and post-trip inspections in a timely manner or as directed by the maintenance manager.
  • Maintains diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements and making necessary corrections.
  • Works in adverse conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow, to repair equipment and vehicles.
  • Builds and assembles machines or mechanical components according to requirements.
  • Troubleshoots reported problems and resolves them in a timely manner.
  • Maintains all relevant records for work and procedures and reports on issues.
  • Performs accurate lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Runs diagnostic tests on vehicles and analyzes results to problem-solve; test-drives vehicles to diagnose malfunctions when necessary.
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections, tire changes, brake replacements, and other utilities to ensure vehicle reliability and operator safety.
  • Builds, rebuilds, and replaces hydraulic components and hoses of vehicles or stationary equipment.
  • Participates in training and learning opportunities to expand knowledge of company products, services, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as needed to support company vision, mission, and core values.

Career Path Definitions

  • Technician Apprentice: Works alongside a knowledgeable Diesel Technician to learn and develop skills, focusing on preventative maintenance and safety.
  • Technician B: Identifies operating issues, troubleshoots electrical and mechanical problems using diagnostic equipment, and corrects issues.
  • Technician A: Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs vehicle systems, including brakes, suspension, steering, hydraulics, engines, cooling, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Master Technician: Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs all vehicle and equipment systems, including rebuilding engines, transmissions, drive lines, electrical systems, and hydraulic components.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing trucks and stationary equipment.
  • Valid Class A, B, or C Driver’s license.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, effective listening, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Dedication to providing excellent customer service and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including frequent lifting of heavy components, pushing, pulling, crouching, climbing, and consistent standing, walking, and grasping.
  • Willingness to work in garage/shop conditions and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment testing, including a drug screen.

Pay

Hiring range: $24–$45 per hour.

Hiring bonuses: $6,000 (Tech B), $8,000 (Tech A), $10,000 (Master/Lead).
