About the role
Holy Redeemer School in Kensington, Maryland is hiring a 2nd grade teacher for the 2026-27 school year. This is a full-time role reporting to the Principal. The salary range is $46,000 to $65,000 with outstanding benefits.
Responsibilities
- Deliver instruction based on the Archdiocese of Washington Academic and Religious Standards.
- Utilize Standardized Test scores and other forms of assessment to adjust lesson plans and inform instruction.
- Create lesson plans that are learner-based and address the various needs of all students.
- Plan lessons incorporating direct instruction, guided instruction, individual/group practice, questioning, demonstration, and discovery.
- Administer assessments (both formal and informal) to determine if instructional objectives are being met.
- Differentiate instruction using assessment data to ensure diverse student needs are met.
- Assign class and homework that support lesson objectives and reinforce the learning process.
- Establish classroom procedures that optimize instructional time.
- Create and enforce rules fostering a positive learning environment based on mutual respect and cooperation.
- Maintain high expectations for achievement and ensure Catholic values underpin all interactions.
- Maintain a grade book reflecting students' progress on formative and summative assessments.
- Communicate students' status to parents and administration through grade book portal, email, notes home, and phone calls.
- Routinely post up-to-date information (homework, projects, and grades) to the school’s grade book portal.
- Hold conferences with parents for academic or behavioral interventions.
- Produce quarterly progress reports and report cards.
- Foster and support Catholic beliefs, traditions, and practices, and witness service to others.
- Plan and teach religion classes aligned with ADW Religion Standards.
- Attend Catholic liturgical ceremonies (as required).
- Perform non-instructional duties such as carpooling, recess, lunch, and classroom teacher substitution (as required).
- Sponsor clubs and other school activities (as required).
- Attend Home and School meetings and other after-hours school events (as required).
- Participate in all required faculty and professional development meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Current teacher certification in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC (candidates have 3 years from hire to earn their certification).
- Knowledge of child development and supervision.
- Experience teaching in an elementary school setting (preferred).
