2nd Grade Teacher, Alpha - $100,000/year USD
Young students don't always recall every detail they were taught. But they never forget the adult who saw their potential. That defines this role. At Alpha, academics are completed in only two hours daily through adaptive learning technology. This structure allows Guides to dedicate their time to what truly transforms lives: cultivating resilience, confidence, communication skills, and the drive to embrace difficult challenges.
About the role
Your day won't revolve around standing before a class delivering lessons. Instead, you'll coach students as they navigate obstacles, acknowledge their progress, and demonstrate what rigorous standards look like when combined with authentic support. You'll oversee a single K-3 cohort band—either Kindergarten-1st grade or 2nd-3rd grade.
Approximately half your time goes toward facilitating dynamic, one-hour workshops focused on life skills such as public speaking, concentration, and receiving feedback. The remaining time is dedicated to individual and small-group coaching, leveraging learning analytics to ensure every child advances toward demanding weekly objectives. Each moment counts. Students should emerge from your workshops with greater competence and from your coaching sessions with expanded belief in their own potential.
This position is not designed for someone seeking to deliver standard curriculum or oversee a conventional classroom. It's built for someone who enjoys inspiring young learners, thrives when outcomes are measurable, and understands that an effective coach can alter a child's path. If you've motivated children as an educator, coach, camp counselor, youth mentor, or performer, you'll discover a fundamentally different classroom environment here.
This is a full-time, on-site position based at one of Alpha's campuses. Current openings for this salary tier are available in Scottsdale, AZ; Oklahoma City and Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, Georgetown, Dallas, Plano, Fort Worth, and Houston, TX; and Park City (Salt Lake City area), UT.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate dynamic life-skills workshops that guide K-3 students toward mastery of communication, focus, feedback, and other foundational skills through active engagement rather than traditional lectures.
- Provide one-on-one and small-group coaching, utilizing Coachbot analytics, established motivation frameworks, and meaningful relationships to ensure each child progresses toward challenging weekly learning targets.
- Evaluate life-skill proficiency using Alpha's Test2Pass framework, continuing to coach students until they exhibit genuine understanding—not merely attendance.
- Tailor your coaching approach to match the developmental stage of your cohort, incorporating songs, movement, and narratives for younger children or fostering greater independence and responsibility for older learners.
- Cultivate relationships where students feel secure enough to push past perceived limitations and accomplish more than they believed achievable.
- Develop a cohort of K-3 students who are enthusiastic about attending school, regularly meet ambitious learning objectives, and acquire the life skills necessary to succeed well beyond elementary education.
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Delivering academic instruction from the front of the classroom. Students complete academics using adaptive software.
- Creating curriculum from the ground up. You'll refine and customize established playbooks rather than designing lessons independently.
- Observing students as they work quietly on computers. Your responsibility centers on active coaching, encouragement, and interpersonal connection.
- Reducing expectations in response to student difficulties. Progress results from guiding students to meet the standard, not adjusting the standard downward.
- Overseeing homework, grading assignments, or managing routine parent correspondence.
Requirements
- Willing to work on-site at one of Alpha's campuses.
- Bachelor's degree in any subject.
- At least 3 years of experience working directly with children ages 4-9 through teaching, coaching, tutoring, camps, youth programs, or similar environments.
- A track record of motivating young children to achieve challenging goals, with specific examples of your impact.
- Comfort using AI-powered learning while focusing your own energy on coaching, motivation, and life-skill development.
- The ability to balance warmth with unwavering expectations.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Nice-to-have Requirements
- Background in youth sports, children's theater, camp leadership, Montessori, progressive education, or high-engagement after-school programs.
- Personal history of reaching ambitious objectives in academics, athletics, or your professional career.
- Exceptional storytelling or performance abilities that naturally engage the attention of young children.
- Demonstrated success in transforming hesitant or reserved children into confident, active contributors.
