About the Role

The Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing an appropriate instructional program that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. This role involves performing instructional and related duties in accordance with District policies and the teacher contract, while maintaining a cooperative attitude with staff, parents, and students.

This is a limited-term position with a 165-day work year, reporting to the School Principal.

Responsibilities

• Provide a variety of classroom techniques and methods to promote high levels of achievement relative to individual student abilities.
• Use techniques and methodologies appropriate to student abilities, including relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to use research-based principles of effective instruction.
• Organize instruction using learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes, employing strategies that emphasize student involvement.
• Monitor student learning and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Prepare daily lesson plans and establish clear objectives for all learning activities.
• Develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with staff, parents, and students.
• Model personal behaviors of honesty, fairness, courtesy, and consideration.
• Maintain a cooperative relationship with administrators, staff, students, and parents.
• Provide timely and accurate feedback/documentation to students, parents, and staff regarding student progress.
• Assign and check homework, providing appropriate feedback.
• Build motivation and interest in learning, exhibiting personal interest in the subject area.
• Maintain a current awareness of literature and activities in the subject area.
• Engage in ongoing personal and professional growth and development.
• Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
• Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings.

Requirements

• Valid Colorado Teaching License within 60 days from date of hire.
• Elementary Education Endorsement or highly qualified status in the applicable content area through one of the following:
  • Endorsement on a Colorado teaching license.
  • Passing score on a State Board of Education approved content exam (currently the ETS Praxis Series).
  • Eligibility for a TiR or Alternative Licensing Program in the content area.
• Completion of a fingerprint-based criminal background check, cleared by the Office of Human Resources.
• Effective communication skills in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
• Willingness to register for and complete READ Act training (required for K-3 or Reading Interventionist positions) by the 2024-2025 school year.

Qualifications

Preferred:

• Experience in a Title I or low-income setting.
• Previous experience as a certified teacher.

• Strong communication skills with students, parents, and teachers to enhance educational, personal, and social aspects of each student.
• Ability to interpret test information and data.
• Strong commitment to system change and evidence of being a "team player."
• Ability to report to work regularly and punctually.
• Flexibility in adapting to changing needs.
