26-97; Food Service Worker; 0.6875 FTE; Probationary

Probationary position: 0.6875 FTE / 5.5 hours per day. Reports to Cafeteria Manager; evaluated by Director of Nutrition Services. Non-exempt.

Pay

$16.60 – $19.87 per hour (2025-26 Salary Schedule; 2026-27 Salary Schedule to be determined).

About the role

Works with the Food Service team to prepare nutritious and attractive meals for students and staff while maintaining a clean kitchen and cafeteria and observing all Health Department regulations to create a safe and healthy work environment. Performs duties with close supervision.

Responsibilities

• Follows and maintains knowledge of applicable District and department policies and procedures.
• Assists in the preparation of school meals, including planning, cutting, cooking, and preparation of food items.
• Assists in set-up of serving lines and serving of food.
• Measures accurate food temperatures.
• Maintains a safe and clean work area.
• Adjusts to changes in food production and handles other tasks as assigned.
• Washes dishes and operates automatic kitchen equipment maintaining sanitary specifications.
• Accurately sets up and stores equipment used to serve food.
• Shuts off, breaks down, and sanitizes designated areas and items.
• Rotates and stocks food on delivery days.
• Knows and follows all safety and sanitary rules and regulations related to food handling.
• Maintains a high standard of personal cleanliness and good grooming as per sanitation code and District and department policy.
• Deposits money into student accounts; takes lunch tickets; runs milk, lunch, and deposit reports and totals; maintains records electronically and in printed format.
• Assists in the maintenance of quality and portion control of food served.
• Works collaboratively with others to implement decisions within ASD established policies and procedures.
• Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students; resolves conflict in a professional manner.
• Communicates clearly with coworkers and other staff.
• Participates as an effective team member.
• Provides impeccable customer service.
• Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, administrators, and parents.
• Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
• Attends work regularly and is punctual.
• Annually passes the District's required online training by the assigned due date.

Marginal duties

• Inventories and stocks supplies.
• Attends in-service trainings and staff meetings.
• Trains student workers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
• Thorough working knowledge of Food Service work, including the ability to operate all kitchen equipment equivalent to that gained in one year of experience.
• Previous experience working in Food Service positions preferred.
• Works well with others from diverse backgrounds; interacts appropriately with students and staff; creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
• Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English; reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; computes rate, ratio, and percent; handles small amounts of money and accounts for monies received.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule, or diagram form; deals with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations.
• General knowledge of computer usage; ability to use email, database, spreadsheets, word processing software, and nutrition services software.
• Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community members.

Certificates, licenses, registrations

• Valid Oregon Driver’s license.
• Valid Oregon Food Handler card.
• CPR/First Aid card as required.
