This is a Philadelphia Federation of Teachers (PFT) represented position. The salary you receive in your offer letter will be based on your verified education and experience, currently ranging from $55,771 to $97,852.

About the Role

A teacher in the School District of Philadelphia plans and teaches their subject area, following the scope and sequence for all courses. The role involves providing instruction through real-life applications, simulations, and technology, including software applications. Teachers use formal and informal assessments to guide instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Assess student skill levels and align classroom goals with state and local standards.
  • Provide instruction in the respective subject area(s).
  • Use real-life applications and simulations to teach material.
  • Encourage inquiry-based learning, experimentation, and alternative problem-solving approaches.
  • Provide expertise in tools, materials, processes, and technology, including software applications.
  • Design learning experiences that require students to demonstrate comprehension and use technological resources to solve problems.
  • Foster an environment where students use learned skills for inquiry-based learning.
  • Create a classroom environment with access to subject-related materials addressing student needs and interests.
  • Collaborate with staff across disciplines to integrate subject-specific skills into the curriculum.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in education affecting the instructional program.
  • Attend faculty meetings to discuss school problems and teaching methods.
  • Maintain classroom discipline, attendance records, grades, and other required documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate in the respective grade level and subject area, or meet requirements to obtain an emergency permit and consistently fulfill its conditions until certification is issued.

Pay

Salary ranges from $55,771 to $97,852, depending on level of education and years of experience. Verification of credentials and experience is required to receive the quoted salary.

Schedule

Regular, full-time position.
