Under the direction of the school principal, plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. Creates an atmosphere conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development to ensure success for every student. Supervises students in various school-related settings, monitors and evaluates outcomes, and interacts with students, parents, staff, and the community.
Responsibilities
- Plans a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of all students (*)
- Reports to work on time and is prepared for all classes and duty assignments (*)
- Creates a classroom environment that engages students in the learning process and enables achievement of learning objectives
- Provides an instructional program to meet the needs of all students, including those with disabilities (*)
- Prepares lesson plans and other documentation as required by the principal or designee
- Establishes clear learning objectives for lessons, units, and projects, communicating these to students (*)
- Aligns learning objectives with student needs, RCSS curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development (*)
- Utilizes instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques to motivate and enable student achievement (*)
- Regularly assesses student learning and behavioral needs, providing input for IEPs and implementing modifications, including co-teaching as needed
- Takes necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities (*)
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and RCSS policy (*)
- Implements school policies and rules governing student conduct, developing fair classroom behavior and procedures
- Makes provisions for availability to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required
- Builds relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community that reflect respect for every individual
- Plans and supervises assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers (*)
- May evaluate paraprofessional job performance with department heads or administrators
- Maintains fair and accurate grading policies, attendance records, email, and web pages as required by RCSS technology systems
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor or appropriate school personnel to support the efficient operation of the school system
Requirements
- Knowledge of RCSS curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, policies, and effective instructional practices
- Understanding of the teaching and learning process
- Ability to provide instruction reflecting multiple perspectives and multicultural education
- Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office staff, students, parents, and the community
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Valid Georgia teaching certificate in the appropriate field of education
- Meets Georgia state certification requirements in the relevant field
Physical Demands
- Ability to move around the classroom, including stooping, bending, and standing for extended periods
- Ability to move heavy objects up to 20 pounds
- May be required to participate in physical restraints for crisis intervention
Schedule
10-month work year. Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the RCSS contract. Some work beyond the regular school day may be required.
