About the Role
Create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. Establish effective rapport with pupils, motivate them to develop foundational skills, attitudes, and knowledge, and maintain good relationships with parents and staff members.
Responsibilities
- Teach district-approved curriculum and instruct students in citizenship and basic subjects as specified by state law and district regulations.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, providing individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil’s needs.
- Translate lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
- Communicate regularly with parents through newsletters, notes, phone calls, and conferences.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
- Identify student needs, make appropriate referrals, and develop strategies for individual education plans.
- Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
- Plan and coordinate the work of teacher aides, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
- Create an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of student work.
- Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members, and vendors.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Valid Arizona teaching certificate.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
Knowledge
- Reading and interpreting general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
- Writing general correspondence and speaking effectively with others.
- Basic arithmetic operations using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Principles and practices of program administration.
- Basic principles and applications of critical thinking and analysis.
- Best practices, trends, and emerging technologies in education.

- Uses and properties of supplies and equipment, including specialized equipment relevant to the role.

Physical Demands
- Positions in this class require stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
- Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions
Work is routinely performed in an indoor classroom environment.
