About the role

The Mentor of School-Age Students supports the Before and After School Enrichment [BASE] program of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain supervision of all students.
  • Provide a safe, clean, and risk-free environment.
  • Engage with the children to encourage their development and involvement in activities.
  • Maintain maintenance records, including, but not limited to: accident and incident reports, sign in/out sheets, attendance records.
  • Greet parents and children daily and report or direct parental concerns to the lead teacher or director.
  • Use positive guidance to support children.
  • Follow DHS procedures and help others do as well.
  • Provide care for the needs of children.
  • Ensures compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED and 2,500 hours of service (2 years) of childcare experience preferred.
  • 30 credit hours of early childhood, elementary or related human services field education.
  • 15 college credit hours and one-year experience related to the care.
  • 2,500 hours of service.
  • Current CDA certificate.
  • Must keep an up-to-date DHS file.
  • Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire.
  • Work with a minimum of 4 shifts per week.
