About the Role

This position provides support to the instructional process by supervising students, developing lesson plans, delivering instruction, collaborating with staff and administrators, and communicating with parents/guardians about student progress and the instructional program.

This position reports to the Principal.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and administers instructional programs in compliance with School Administration directives, Board of Education policy, and state/federal laws.
  • Oversees the overall instruction, operation, management, and supervision of the classroom.
  • Demonstrates varied instructional methods to address individual student needs and provide an effective learning program.
  • Develops and administers subject-specific assessments to evaluate student competency and creates individual learning plans to improve academic success.
  • Assesses student progress toward learning targets and ensures a safe, positive learning environment.
  • Instructs and counsels students to improve academic performance, behavior, problem-solving skills, health, and personal issues.
  • Manages student behavior to maintain a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to support school improvement and student outcomes.
  • Assists other classroom teachers with curriculum implementation and individual student plans.
  • Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers to administer an effective classroom program.
  • Advises parents/guardians on student progress, expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
  • Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, students, administrators, and central office staff.
  • Prepares written materials such as grades, lesson plans, correspondence, exams, attendance records, and anecdotal records to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Participates in meetings and professional development activities.
  • Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, substance abuse) to maintain student safety and comply with state law and Board policies.
  • Responds to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns immediately.
