26-27 Paraprofessional Support Staff/Instructional Aide Special Education (San Jose, CA)

About the role

This position works a school calendar (218 days). $1,000 HIRING BONUS OFFERED! Small Class Sizes!

Responsibilities

• Provide in classroom behavior management and academic support to the classroom Teacher.
• Perform problem solving with students through coaching, mentoring, and disciplining.
• Respond to and de-escalate crisis situations in the classroom.
• Physically intervene with aggressive students as detailed in Day School policy.
• Call on Behavioral Interventionist when a student's behavior is disruptive or physically threatening.
• Meet with Behavioral Interventionist regularly to discuss behavior management policies and best practices.
• Aid students with lesson assignments and reinforce learning concepts.
• Assist with classroom management and lesson presentation.
• Attend to student arrivals and departures, and distribute behavior incentives.
• Participate in various meetings and activities as requested.

Requirements

Must possess effective communication skills. Must be highly observant and able to utilize auditory and visual cues. Must have a high school diploma or a four-year college degree in education or child psychology. Must complete Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training within the first 2 weeks of employment.

Qualifications

Must be able to effectively communicate. Must be able to effectively use a computer and telephone. Must be able to read and compose documents. Must be able to lift and move at least 70 lbs. Must be able to physically participate in approved hands-on student behavioral management techniques.
