About the role
This position is for a part-time Special Education Classroom Teacher within Norman Public Schools. The ideal candidate should hold a current Oklahoma Certificate as a Special Education Teacher and possess a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education.
Responsibilities
- Initiate/Participate in categorical eligibility meetings as an expert in a category of IDEA-BPL 101-746.
- Ensure that each child has a current IEP (Individual Education Plan) with the required signatures.
- Monitor the implementation of IEPs.
- Review and write IEPs on an annual basis.
- Create and maintain a working special education file in a locked cabinet containing teacher assessments, IEPs, psychological evaluations, and pertinent medical information.
- Provide advice on special education issues to the building principal.
- Provide in-service sessions to regular education staff regarding classroom inclusion, intervention, and/or modification techniques.
- Collaborate, consult, and instruct regular education staff regarding classroom expectations and dynamics.
- Assist students in taking prescribed medication(s).
- Lift and/or move non-ambulatory students.
- Diaper and assist students with toileting.
- Adapt foods and assist in feeding students.
- Present a professional appearance appropriate to teaching the assignment.
- Display a well-rounded knowledge and understanding of multicultural issues.
- Perform teaching and reporting requirements identified as part of state and federally funded programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the definition and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Knowledge of mathematics, including arithmetic, and basic computations regarding addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Knowledge of customer and personal services, including principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
Skills
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to write legibly and communicate in a clear and grammatically correct manner.
- Ability to interpret and translate facts and information, explain situations and issues, identify alternative courses of action, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Oral comprehension, oral expression, written comprehension, written expression, deductive reasoning, near vision, speech clarity, speech recognition, mathematical reasoning, problem sensitivity, near vision, and speech recognition.
Knowledge
