26-27 High School Special Education Teacher (ESE/Learning Specialist)

Founded in 2018, KIPP Miami operates two nonprofit charter schools in Greater Miami’s Urban Core community, serving students in grades K-4 at KIPP Royalty Academy and 5-8 at KIPP Courage Academy.

About the role

Our schools seek dynamic Special Education/ESE Teachers to guide students in their academic, socio-emotional growth, and development. You will create inclusive learning experiences that help each student reach their full potential, regardless of disabilities. This role involves collaboration with general education teachers, case management, IEP development, and family engagement.

Responsibilities

• Teaching and Classroom Responsibilities
  • Teach in an inclusive class, sharing responsibilities with a general education teacher
  • Provide resource small group and 1:1 support as needed
  • Use multisensory teaching strategies and specialized instruction based on student disabilities
  • Implement all modifications and accommodations for classroom and testing
  • Create IEPs in collaboration with the Child Response Team to ensure high-level service delivery and compliance
  • Use student IEPs, evaluations, and present levels of performance to guide instruction
  • Collaborate with the student support team to conduct annual IEP meetings
  • Use data to teach to mastery of academic and IEP goals
  • Track student performance and progress, creating action plans for improvement when needed
  • Administer and track weekly assessment data to monitor progress toward grade-level and IEP goals
  • Communicate progress clearly to all stakeholders
  • Participate in school, departmental, and parent meetings
  • Engage in school events, activities, and programs both during and outside regular instruction hours
• IEP Management
  • Write initial and updated IEPs based on present levels of performance and curriculum standards
  • Track student progress toward IEP goals weekly and quarterly
  • Use progress tracking to adjust student programming as needed
  • Report goal achievement at the end of every advisory period and issue quarterly progress reports
  • Maintain a portfolio of student grades, work samples, anecdotal data, and classroom observations
• Case Management
  • Ensure case compliance and student academic progress through tracking tools
  • Review and analyze student information to develop corrective action plans for additional testing or service changes
  • Maintain special education files in collaboration with the grade-level social worker
  • Coordinate all IEP meetings (Initial, Eligibility, IEP, Re-eligibility, Triennial) and provide academic data
  • Communicate IEP notes and updates to grade-level teams, teachers, and paraprofessionals
  • Ensure related services are represented in IEPs and integrated into classroom practice
  • Review monthly student performance data with the Assistant Principal
• Team and Family Engagement
  • Collaborate with students, families, and colleagues to create a supportive environment
  • Effectively communicate academic and behavior performance to families
• Professional Development
  • Engage actively in the Performance Management Process
  • Develop subject matter knowledge and teaching methods
  • Attend and participate in school-sponsored professional development

Requirements

• A belief in every student’s limitless potential
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (official transcripts required)
• Valid Florida ESE (Exceptional Student Education) Teaching Certification
• Subject matter expertise
• Minimum of two years of teaching experience, with demonstrated interest in working with students from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds
• Track record of success in the classroom
• Collaborative attitude toward teaching and learning

• Master’s in Special Education/Teaching Students with Disabilities
• Record of exceptional student achievement at a high-performing charter network
• Belief that all students deserve a world-class education through education reform

Physical Demands

The role requires frequent standing, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, or squatting. Some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling, along with significant fine finger dexterity. Walking and climbing stairs are frequent. Pay

KIPP Miami offers competitive salaries starting at $55,000 for teacher positions, with additional opportunities to earn up to $4,000 annually in performance-based pay.
