About the role

This position works with the school cafeteria team to provide breakfast and lunch to students, focusing primarily on quality food production of menu items and production documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Follows time, task, and rotation schedules assigned by the supervisor.
  • Performs cleaning, serving, cashiering, and dish room duties as assigned.
  • Prepares food according to production menus and recipes, ensuring appropriate amounts, quality (flavor and appearance), and food cost control using correct weights and measures.
  • Collaborates with the supervisor to adjust recipes when needed.
  • Ensures compliance with all Child Nutrition Department, local, state, and federal requirements, guidelines, policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Follows all Child Nutrition cash control procedures.
  • Assists co-workers and supervisor as necessary.
  • Assumes a leadership role in the kitchen as directed by the supervisor, including opening and closing the kitchen in the supervisor’s absence.
  • Assists the supervisor with documenting daily food preparation on production records and recipes.
  • Performs additional duties assigned by the immediate supervisor or above.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months of related experience and/or training.
  • Basic computer data-entry skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, schedule, or blueprint form.
