About the role

This position serves as an assistant principal in an assigned middle school, providing support to the principal in overseeing the curriculum and ensuring student learning experiences align with district goals.

Responsibilities

  • Hiring, training, counseling, and evaluating staff
  • Assisting the principal in overseeing academic instruction
  • Providing guidance to staff on student instruction
  • Promoting curriculum and instruction improvements
  • Monitoring student achievement and progress
  • Administering the student behavior and discipline program
  • Counseling and guiding students on personal, academic, and behavioral issues
  • Investigating and addressing student-related issues
  • Coordinating student activities and programs
  • Developing and executing the master schedule and class scheduling
  • Maintaining school building areas for safety and compliance
  • Managing student transportation
  • Assisting in the administration of the athletic program
  • Supporting after-school activities and events
  • Preparing or overseeing the completion of required documentation and reports
  • Maintaining positive school-community relations
  • Resolving problems and issues in a collaborative manner
  • Performing duties of principal in absence
  • Maintaining current knowledge of best practices and trends in middle school administration
  • Recommending changes to operations and instructional strategies

Requirements

Five (5) years of successful, licensed teaching experience with Columbus City Schools or a comparable school district, and one (1) year of school-based administrator experience (Current CCS employees without administrative experience will be considered if the valid principal licensure requirement is met).

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education, educational leadership, administration, or a related field
