About the role

The Assistant Principal, High School position serves under the supervision of the Principal, High School. This role involves assisting with strategic direction and overseeing the execution of all plans and activities of the district's curriculum, ensuring that student learning experiences align with the district's mission and instructional goals.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the day-to-day activities of building staff, including hiring, training, counseling, and evaluating staff performance.
  • Aids the Principal in overseeing academic instruction, promoting improvement of curriculum and instruction, and monitoring student achievement and progress.
  • Provides guidance and support to staff engaged in student instruction, and assists in developing initiatives to improve student outcomes.
  • Manages the student behavior and discipline program, addressing student-related issues and concerns, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Coordinates the administration of state and district mandated testing at the building level, and plans and executes grade-level activities such as student recognition events, Homecoming, Prom, Graduation, and others.
  • Assumes responsibility for the building's emergency and crisis plans, including fire/emergency drills, and ensures compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Maintains a positive and cooperative atmosphere, supports after-school activities, and communicates effectively with parents and the community.
  • Performs the duties of Principal in the absence of the Principal, and maintains current knowledge of best practices and trends in high school curriculum and administration.

Requirements

Required minimum qualifications include a Master’s degree in education, educational leadership, administration, or a related field, five (5) years of successful, licensed teaching experience with Columbus City Schools or a comparable school district, and one (1) year of school-based administrator experience. Additionally, a current Ohio Principal license (Grades 5-12) is required.

Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards, curriculum development and implementation, student information systems and learning platforms, and laws related to student rights, teacher contracts, discipline, and special education is essential. Proficiency in computer applications, effective interpersonal communication, conflict management, and the ability to prioritize tasks and maintain attention to detail are also required.
