Under the direction of the school principal and their designee, this role plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students, fostering an atmosphere conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.
Responsibilities
- Plans a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of all students (*)
- Reports to work on time and is prepared for all classes and duty assignments (*)
- Creates a classroom environment that promotes student involvement in the learning process and enables achievement of learning objectives
- Provides an instructional program to meet the needs of all students, including those with disabilities (*)
- Prepares lesson plans and other documentation as required by the principal or designee
- Establishes clear learning objectives for lessons, units, and projects, communicating these to students (*)
- Aligns learning objectives with student needs, RCSS curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development (*)
- Utilizes instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives (*)
- Regularly assesses the learning and behavioral needs of students and provides input for IEPs, including modifications and co-teaching as needed
- Takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities (*)
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and RCSS policy (*)
- Implements school policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develops and enforces fair classroom behavior and procedures
- Makes themselves available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms
- Builds relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community that reflect recognition of and respect for every individual
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers (*)
- May evaluate paraprofessionals’ job performance with department heads or administrators
- Maintains fair and accurate grading policies, attendance records, email, and web pages as required by the RCSS technology system
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor or appropriate school personnel to support the efficient operation of the school system
Requirements
- Knowledge of RCSS curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, RCSS policies, and effective instructional practices
- Understanding of the teaching and learning process
- Ability to provide instruction reflecting multiple perspectives and multicultural education
- Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office staff, students, parents, and the community
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Valid Georgia teaching certificate in the appropriate field of education
- Meets Georgia state certification requirements in the relevant field of education
Physical Demands
- Ability to move around the classroom, including stooping, bending, and standing for extended periods
- Ability to move heavy objects up to 20 pounds
- May be required to participate in physical restraints for crisis intervention
Schedule
- 10-month work year (school calendar)
- Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by RCBOE contract
- Some work beyond the school day may be required
Pay
Salary range in accordance with RCSS Salary Schedules.
