About the role
The Department of Medical Physics within NHS Lothian is seeking two Clinical Engineer posts. One is a new full-time and permanent post, while the other provides maternity cover for a fixed term of 12 months.
Responsibilities
- Lead/participate in projects to introduce new medical device technologies into the Health Board and maintain medical devices throughout their lifecycle.
- Provide a timely review and risk assessment of Research and Development studies involving medical devices requiring Clinical Engineering sign-off.
- Deliver an ongoing portfolio of routine medical equipment replacement projects, solve problems through one-off projects, and participate in longer-term Clinical Engineering quality improvement projects.
- Work closely with colleagues in Higher Education institutions who are developing novel devices, collaborating with the Health Board.
- Support multiple clinical specialties across four acute hospitals and the local healthcare community, ensuring patient safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
Requirements
- HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist, specializing in Clinical Engineering.
- Self-motivated, with good organizational and interpersonal skills, and a flexible and methodical approach.
Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree in Clinical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in clinical engineering and medical equipment management.
- Knowledge of medical device technologies and their lifecycle management.
Skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage projects and solve complex problems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.

Pay
