The KAUST -King Abdullah University of Science and Technology offers a PhD position in Computational Homogeneous Photocatalysis under the supervision of Prof. Luigi Cavallo.

About the role

The project aims to develop a deeper mechanistic understanding of photocatalysis through static DFT and ab initio molecular dynamics of excited states of organic molecules and transition metal complexes. The successful candidate will gain skills necessary for a successful academic career, including:

  • Mastering computational chemistry tools for top-class research
  • Developing chemistry knowledge to understand the problem
  • Communicating with experimental partners
  • Communicating research effectively in presentations and publications
  • Developing a critical approach to science
  • Writing independent research proposals

Responsibilities

Students are expected to interact closely with experimental groups throughout their PhD. The scholarship includes:

  • A KAUST scholarship covering the entire duration of the PhD
  • Free fully furnished housing
  • Free high-standard medical and dental insurance

Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A recent Ms degree in Physics, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Good knowledge of physical chemistry
  • Proven experience in computational chemistry (optional)
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Good judgment, independence, clear sense of purpose, and accountability
