About the role

A Mechanical Technician Intern gets experience in basic maintenance practices under close guidance from an experienced Mechanical Technician mentor inside Gas Compression Stations and Plants. You will work side-by-side with experienced professionals during the program, receiving an introduction to company practices, safety requirements, procedures, technical tools, and on-the-job training.

A technical internship with Phillips 66 Midstream offers opportunities to contribute to our Midstream organization, which gathers, processes, transports, fractionates, and markets natural gas and natural gas liquids. The segment also transports crude oil and other feedstocks to refineries and other locations, delivering refined and specialty products to market while providing storage services for crude oil and petroleum products. This segment consists of three business lines: NGL, Transportation, and DCP Midstream, which includes owned and leased logistics assets enabling the environmentally safe transfer of products through pipeline systems, terminals, and fractionation units.

This position requires the successful completion of an online assessment. Responsibilities

• Participate in performance reviews with your manager, who will provide coaching and guidance throughout your internship, as will your assigned mentor
• Attend orientation and training events, field trips, social activities, weekly seminars, and opportunities to meet and interact with functional leaders
• Give a presentation about your work assignment and projects, as well as what you learned from the internship program

Requirements

• Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
• Pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Natural Gas Compression, Gas or Diesel engine technology, or equivalent technical program
• Currently enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate program
• Graduation date in August 2027 or later
• Available to intern for a minimum of 11 continuous weeks
• Temporarily relocate to the internship location region
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license
• Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to:
  • Climb up to 50 feet using both inclined and vertical steps/ladders
  • Lift up to 45 pounds
  • Bend, kneel, knee stand, and squat up to 30 minutes at a time
  • Sit and stand for prolonged periods over 2 hours at a time according to job demands
  • Work outside in harsh weather conditions
  • Work alone a high percentage of the time
  • Travel up to 15% of the time
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed
  • Work overtime on an as-needed basis
  • Work with chemicals and bases
  • Wear personal protective equipment (such as fire-retardant clothing, steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)
  • Maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (e.g., being free of facial hair and/or clean-shaven)
  • Perform firefighting duties
  • Work with hydrocarbons that are under high pressure and heat

Qualifications

Preferred:

• A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Good mechanical foundation and a high-level understanding of internal combustion engines
• Basic mechanical skills of typical 4-stroke engine operations and maintenance, reciprocating compressors, using hand wrenches, lifting equipment, rotating equipment like pumps and motors, and light electrical work
• Previous internship or co-op participant in a related industry
• Previous internship with Phillips 66

Pay

The base pay range for this role is $24.94–$28.50 hourly, dependent on a candidate's level of education.
