Context and Environment

The Tax Graduate – Law Track participates in a structured two‑year rotational program designed to develop future tax professionals through exposure to tax planning, compliance, provision, indirect tax, and tax‑related business initiatives. The role supports U.S. tax activities across multiple business lines and provides opportunities to contribute to strategic transactions, reorganizations, regulatory analysis, and business operations. Working closely with Tax, Finance, Legal, and external advisors, the successful candidate will develop a strong foundation in tax law while gaining practical experience in how tax decisions impact financial reporting, business strategy, and operational performance. The position operates within a U.S.-based tax organization supporting a diverse multi‑energy portfolio of affiliates.

Rotational Development Assignments

  • Compliance & Tax Provision: Support preparation and review of tax return reporting processes; assist with tax provision activities and financial reporting analyses; develop an understanding of effective tax rate (ETR) calculations, deferred taxes, and tax accounting principles; gain exposure to the interaction between tax planning and financial statement reporting.
  • Indirect Tax: Support activities related to sales and use tax, property tax, and other indirect tax obligations; develop an understanding of operational tax impacts and business processes; assist in evaluating tax considerations affecting day‑to‑day business operations.
  • Professional Development: Manage multiple assignments and project deadlines while maintaining high‑quality deliverables; collaborate effectively with Tax, Finance, Legal, and business stakeholders; participate in learning and development opportunities designed to build technical, analytical, and leadership capabilities; develop a broad understanding of the company's operations and the role of tax in supporting business success.

Job Dimensions

  • Supports tax planning activities for U.S. affiliates across multiple business lines, including transactions and strategic initiatives.
  • Participates in a structured rotational program encompassing Tax Planning, Compliance & Provision, and Indirect Tax functions.
  • Contributes to research and analysis related to federal, state, and international tax matters.
  • Assists in evaluating the tax implications of transactions, reorganizations, acquisitions, dispositions, and business initiatives.
  • Gains exposure to the complete tax lifecycle, including planning, reporting, compliance, and operational tax considerations.
  • Operates within a collaborative environment involving Tax, Finance, Legal, and external advisors.
  • Develops an understanding of the relationship between tax strategies, business objectives, and financial outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tax Planning & Advisory: Support the Tax Planning team in delivering tax advisory services to U.S. affiliates; conduct tax research and summarize technical tax considerations for senior review; assist in analysis of corporate transactions, reorganizations, acquisitions, dispositions, and other strategic initiatives; prepare tax planning presentations, structure analyses, memoranda, and related documentation; participate in planning discussions to develop tax‑efficient structures; monitor and summarize developments in U.S. federal, state, and relevant international tax legislation.
  • Transaction & Project Support: Review transaction documents and coordinate information requests with internal stakeholders and external advisors; support planning initiatives through data gathering, analysis, and validation of key assumptions; identify data inconsistencies, potential risks, or issues and communicate findings; contribute to the development and maintenance of tax knowledge‑sharing resources and documentation.

Accountabilities

  • Contribute to the effective delivery of tax planning and advisory support across U.S. affiliates.
  • Support tax analysis related to strategic transactions, business initiatives, and organizational restructuring.
  • Assist with tax law monitoring and research activities that inform planning decisions.
  • Support the integration of tax planning considerations with compliance, financial reporting, and indirect tax requirements.
  • Build strong working relationships across Tax, Finance, Legal, and business teams.
  • Demonstrate continuous learning and development throughout the rotational program.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) required; Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation preferred.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical tax concepts and synthesize clear, structured conclusions.
  • Proficiency in Excel and comfort working with numerical data, including organizing, analyzing, and validating data sets.
  • Ability to connect tax considerations to business, financial, and operational outcomes.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills; ability to present complex concepts in an understandable manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all deliverables.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
  • Proactive approach with willingness to ask questions, identify issues, and follow through on assigned work.
